On 20 July 2026, the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that it had granted approval, under Decision No. 930/26, for the marketing of the Hydrochar, produced by the TerraNova®ultra-system, as an Organic Fertilizer.
This marks the first time in Europe that End-of-Waste status for sewage sludge has been achieved through Hydrothermal Carbonization. For the Municipality of Solina, which submitted the application, this means that sewage sludge — previously disposed of at high cost — can now be sold as Hydrochar on the open market without a waste disposal certificate.
This is a long-awaited step toward a circular economy and saves on costly imports of mineral Fertilizers. Our special congratulations go to our Polish partner Schwander Polska and expert Jan Kolbusz of Mikrobiotech, whose extensive test series at various renowned institutes in Poland made this approval possible.
Hydrothermal Carbonization of sewage sludge produces a compact, dry, storable organic Fertilizer in a highly energy-efficient way. At temperatures above 170°C, micropollutants are destroyed and stable carbon available for soil enrichment is increased.
